Allium Schoenoprasum
Chives are a hardy herbaceous perennial. They belong to the same family as garlic, leeks, and onion. The hollow green leaves have a mild onion flavor. These chives taste just like you remember chives tasting. The purple flowers that blossom from May to June are edible as well. We love our chive flowers. You can harvest throughout the year or use the chive in your garden for its insect repelling properties. Start harvesting the chive plant when the leaves reach a height of at least 6 inches. Chives are so delicious in so many ways, don't be to experiment whith this automatic herb.
