Erythrina herbaria

A gorgeous Florida native flower. This plant is a perfect addition to a butterfly garden with its bright scarlet flowers, known to attract all types of pollinators and even hummingbirds if they are around. This woody perennial shrub comes from the Fabaceae, or legume and pea family, and prefers the native sandy soil. Named for its coral-colored seeds this plant also goes by Cardinal spear, a descriptor of its flowers.

Be careful. The seeds and flowers are extremely toxic.
