Capsicum annuum 'Jalapeño'
This is the most common hot pepper in the United States, named after the Mexican town Xalapa. Jalapeo M average 3.5" X 1.5" in size, are thick-walled, moderately hot (5000 Scoville Heat Units) and start out green and turn bright red when they mature. As the fruit ages, the skin can develop a netting pattern, but this has no bearing on the taste. And peppers from the same plant may have varying degrees of fire. Peppers that grow quickly, get lots of water, and are extracted quickly can be milder than peppers that remain on the plant for a long time or mature slowly and under stress. Jalapeños contain vitamins A,B, K and C.
