Stachytarpheta jamaicensis

Blue Porterweed is a beautiful Florida native wildflower, almost ground cover. This plant offers many benefits to a butterfly garden by attracting pollinators and serving as larval host for the tropical buckeye (Junonia genoveva) butterfly while serving as a nectar plant for many butterflies and moths. From the Verbenaceae, or verbena family, this plant grows well in the native sandy soil. Blue porterweed is an relatively low growing perennial. This plant's flowers are known to be edible (tastes like button mushrooms) while some enjoy steeping the flowers and stems for an herbal tea.

Just like everything else we sell, these plants are all organically grown, in-house. We do not use any synthetic pesticides or fertilizers, and blend our own potting soil from scratch based on each plant species' needs. Unlike other nurseries, we do not focus on the size of the plant, but rather the condition of the roots. We grow everything with your long-term success in mind, rather than what it will look like "on the shelf"
