Lettuce- Red Romaine Head (Heirloom)
Lactuca sativa
Red Romaine starts off with green leaves that eventually turn a deep burgundy color, even more in cooler weather. A perfect addition to a mix salad, Red Romaine can be picked at as a cut-and-come-again leaf lettuce, or can be left to form a head (light picking of bigger leaves is allowed) but not both. The heads (if allowed to form) are thick enough to grill. Plants are slow to bolt (unless picked at) and grow best in full sun, but will tolerate partial shade and even appreciate it in spring in hot climates.
