Pea-Taichung 13 Sugar Pea/Snap Pea
Pisum sativum
Delicious, rugged, and surprisingly heat resistant (Florida winter heat... not Summer, lol)! This snow pea from Taiwan's Taichung district shocked us by enduring a heatwave that washed out all of our other trial peas. It also has lovely white flowers that are accompanied by tender, tasty pea pods. Pretty, strong, and delectable. For good flavor and tenderness harvest regularly. Raw, steamed, or stir-fried, this vegetable is delicious. Place seeds 1' apart against a trellis with netting so the tendrils can get a grip, while the vines rise up to 6' long. In Central Florida, 'Taichung' is best planted in late winter or mid fall (after the cool down; it has some heat resistance but favors cold weather like most peas.
