C. Moschata

This summer squash is nicknamed avocado squash because of its shape. It has glossy deep green skin, light yellow flesh, and a wonderful, sweet flavor. With moderate plant vigor, it is easy to grow and has good fruit set due to short internode spacing and a narrow stem. Ripe fruits measure about 4" in diameter.

  • Warm season annual
  • Maturity: Approx. 65-70 days
  • Planting season: Late spring/summer
Squash prefers warm temperatures. Prepare fertile, well-drained soil. Sow seeds in spring/summer after last frost in a warm, sunny location. Hill planting: Form soil into a 1-ft. diameter mound 3-4" tall. Space mounds 3-4' apart. On each mound plant 1-2 seeds. Row planting: See spacing info in chart. Keep soil moist. Fertilize as needed. Train to climb a vertical support for better air circulation and ease of harvest or leave to sprawl on the ground.

  • “All items arrived quickly and well packaged. I usually expect to have one or two live items out of a batch, but they are all thriving. I couldn’t be happier!”

  • “My live plants were packed like they belonged in Ft Knox. 😂 They really were packed beautifully. Only one plant, a bee balm, is questionable but signs that it will recover are happening. All in all I am thrilled with my plants and seeds. Some of my coreopsis have already sprouted!”

  • “I’ve ordered seeds from Whitwam Organics 3 or 4 times now. I love the simple packaging, clear planting guidelines, and variety they offer. Great germination rates!! The bare root plants I’ve ordered have come healthy, so healthy that the wild rabbits always approve of my menu upgrades! 😂🐰”
